    About us

I have always loved making things, but it wasn’t until my children were tiny that I discovered my love of crochet and knitting. The best thing about wool craft is how portable it is and it is wonderful how I can make things easily where ever I am and whenever I have the chance. It started as a hobby and then became an addiction that fitted in brilliantly around the children and now it is my full time job!

My Mum taught me the basics of both knitting and crochet, but largely I taught myself from books and by making lots of mistakes. I think this is why I love teaching other people because I can remember how awkward it felt and how it was mainly practice that helped me improve. I really became totally hooked… literally!

All Woolly Chic wool is British. Some of which is sourced from our family’s Dorset and Ryeland flocks in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

In 2020, working with Laxtons, a spinning mill in Yorkshire, I launched a brand new luxury eco yarn called HeartSpun. HeartSpun is a 4ply / fingering weight blend of 70% British Bluefaced Leicester wool and 30% Tencel™.

I also stock fair trade 100% organic cotton that supports small farmers from India and Tanzania.

    Thank you for stopping by!

    Information about Woolly Chic wool

Woolly Chic’s Welsh Wool has been spun from the fleece of three different breeds of happy sheep farmed in Narberth, Pembrokeshire – Poll Dorset, Ryeland, and Texel.

This combination of sheep breeds has made my wool strong, springy and softens when knitted and blocked.  It is ideal for bags, socks, and home accessories like tea cosies, afghans and cushions.

My Cousin David Lewis manages the flock and he currently has 500 Poll Dorset, Ryeland and Texel Sheep.

Woolly Chic’s HeartSpun Eco yarn has been developed out of a love of British Wool and a passion for environmental sustainability.

Spun from the fleece of British Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) sheep, which is both strong and soft and drapes beautifully once knitted. BFL fleece is known for its softness, but the fibre is also hard wearing and has wonderful stitch definition, making it equally ideal for both more durable items and lace garments.

Tencel™ is made from renewable wood pulp from Eucalyptus trees grown in certified sustainable forests in Europe and South Africa.  It is 100% biodegradable and the production of Tencel™ requires less energy and water than fibres such as bamboo, cotton and viscose.  For more information on the environmental credentials of Tencel™ visit  https://www.tencel.com/sustainability

Combined together, Bluefaced Leicester and Tencel™ creates a beautiful soft yarn with a luxurious smooth sheen.  It is strong, breathable, naturally anti-bacterial and hypo allergenic.  It also allows dyes to penetrate deeply into the fibre resulting in impressive colour brilliance.

This wonderful AWARD WINNING (!!!!) yarn is available here along with many different knitting and crochet patterns and kits providing ideas of what you can make with the yarn.
