It’s Woolly Chic’s 10th Anniversary this year!
I started my business, Woolly Chic, 10 years ago! It all began when I became addicted to crochet but struggled to find British wool to use for my hobby! I was passionate then (as I am still today) about supporting British sheep farmers, as my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin farm Poll Dorset and Ryeland sheep in Pembrokeshire. The lightbulb moment came whilst on holiday in France to combine my love of crochet and British wool and create my own yarn from the fleece of sheep farmed by my family!
It has been quite a journey since then from producing beautiful Pembrokeshire wool to creating my luxurious HeartSpun yarn, which is a unique blend of British Bluefaced Leicester wool and Tencel, made from wood pulp. I will soon be launching HeartSpun DK, so watch this space!
To celebrate I am hosting a Summer Craft Party at Hitchin Lavender on Friday 1st July, 6.30 pm until 9pm!
Bring along your knitting, crochet, embroidery, or even needle felting and enjoy an evening of crafting with friends in the relaxing setting of Hitchin Lavender’s beautiful 17th Century Barn.
I will be available to answer any crochet or knitting related questions and there will be an opportunity to see some of her latest designs and even buy some yarn!

Definitely one of the biggest highlights has been seeing my dream of producing an eco friendly luxuriously soft British yarn becoming a reality. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign I was able to get my HeartSpun 4ply spun and dyed and it even won the British Knitting and Crochet Sustainable Eco Product of the Year award!
In the last 10 years I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with some wonderful creative and inspiring people. There have been times when running a small business has been quite a lonely enterprise and tackling the everyday tasks have been extremely daunting and frustrating! So thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way!
Above is just a small example of the help and support I have benefited from in order to publish my latest design, the Kielder Top. Thanks to Jane Hickman for tech editing my pattern, to April, Trish and my Mum for testing the pattern and to Riverknits for dyeing my HeartSpun 4ply such gorgeous colours.
It has been really nice to reflect on the last 10 years and I am really quite proud of what I have achieved so far! So here’s to a few more happy years to come!
