I have exciting news to share with you! Our HeartSpun 4ply British Eco yarn has won an award! HeartSpun was selected by the British Knitting and Crochet Awards panel of expert judges as the winner of the Sustainable/Eco Product of the year!
A massive thank you to everyone who supported me at the beginning of the year with my Kickstarter campaign to produce this beautiful environmentally friendly 70% British Bluefaced Leicester/ 30% Tencel yarn. This award, I share with all of you!
It is wonderful to have the environmental credentials of this wonderful yarn being recognised by such well respected industry experts. The British Knitting and Crochet Trade Awards website said “An awareness of environmental issues has led to a shift in focus across the industry and we are pleased to announce that HeartSpun 4ply by Woolly Chic was named as the Sustainable/Eco Product of the Year.”
The judges said that HeartSpun was “A soft and silky, high quality yarn with a beautiful sheen. It’s exciting to see a woollen based yarn strengthened with renewable fibres.”

Environmentally Friendly yarn
Woolly Chic’s HeartSpun has been developed out of a love of British Wool and a passion for environmental sustainability.
Spun from the fleece of British Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) sheep, which is both strong and soft and drapes beautifully once knitted. BFL fleece is known for its softness, but the fibre is also hard wearing and has wonderful stitch definition, making it equally ideal for both more durable items and lace garments.
Tencel™ is made from renewable wood pulp from Eucalyptus trees grown in certified sustainable forests in Europe and South Africa. It is 100% biodegradable and the production of Tencel™ requires less energy and water than fibres such as bamboo, cotton and viscose. For more information on the environmental credentials of Tencel™ visit https://www.tencel.com/sustainability
Combined together, Bluefaced Leicester and Tencel™ creates a beautiful soft yarn with a luxurious smooth sheen. It is strong, breathable, naturally anti-bacterial and hypo allergenic. It also allows dyes to penetrate deeply into the fibre resulting in impressive colour brilliance.
