HeartSpun Fir Tree Top

The HeartSpun Fir Tree Top is a light and airy oversized top with 3 quarter length dolman sleeves knitted in DK yarn.  With an unusual top down construction and a lovely lace pattern along the shoulders and sleeves and around the bottom, the Fir Tree Top is an interesting and quick knit.

The recommended yarn is the beautifully soft HeartSpun DK yarn, which has fantastic stitch definition, ideal for the simple lace stitches in this pattern.

The knitting pattern includes sizes from 24 to 44 inch bust.  The top is knitted with 5 in/12.7 cm of positive ease.

The Fir Tree Top is constructed by knitting two sleeve panels in a lace pattern. The sleeve panel is worked flat. Stitches are then picked up separately along both sides of these panels with stitches cast on between the panels to make the front and back of the top.   The front and back are knitted in rows whilst shaping the sleeves.  When the curve under the arm is completed all the stitches are transferred to a circular needle and the top is completed by working in the round.  Finally, the lace edging around the bottom is worked flat.

The only sewing required is under the arms and one side of the lace edging at the bottom.

If you would like the yarn for this project, you will need 250g / 300g / 300g / 350g / 450g of DK HeartSpun yarn (70% British Bluefaced Leicester/ 30% Tencel) for sizes 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5.

You will also need to knit the HeartSpun Fir Top:

• 5.5 mm and 4 mm Circular Knitting Needles with a cable long enough for your preferred method of circular knitting.
• Large wool needle for weaving in the ends.
• Stitch holders or waste yarn to hold the stitches (preferably a smooth DK yarn in a contrasting colour).
• Stitch markers.
