    Rainbows and Bunting

After weeks and weeks of sunshine in the UK the weather has returned back to what feels more normal for this time of year and it is much colder, greyer and wetter. But as life has felt far from normal, the warmer weather has been a welcome distraction for what has been an extremely anxious and unsettling time. Of course where there is rain and sunshine there are also rainbows!

In these days of lockdown rainbows have become symbols of hope and positivity, and also have been a way of expressing our thanks for all the key workers who have worked tirelessly to fight the Coronavirus and keep us safe.

I have designed a free rainbow crochet pattern , which is available along with an instruction video on Teachable. If you would like to crochet a few rainbows, then one ball of West Yorkshire Spinners Technicolour DK wool is perfect!

Teachable is a great online learning resource where PDF patterns, teaching materials and videos can be downloaded and therefore, shouldn’t rely on you having to have good internet connection. I have recorded a few online crochet workshops to help people learn to crochet and plan to create some more in the future. You can see all my courses here – woollychic.teachable.com/courses It isn’t quite the same as teaching in person, but hopefully until it is safe for me to run my workshops again, is the next best thing.

I am also super excited to have designed a new crochet pattern for Rainbow Bunting, which has charts for all the letters of the alphabet. The pattern for this bunting, together with a tutorial on how to do Tapestry Crochet can be found on Teachable or you can buy my brand new Rainbow Bunting kit which includes 6 colours of wool, a crochet hook, project bag, pattern and a discount code, allowing you free access to the online tutorial.

In the UK many people have been expressing their thanks for the NHS by displaying rainbows in their windows and in Hitchin we are planning to decorate our beautiful St Mary’s Churchyard with rainbows and bunting in the Autumn for the postponed Hitchin Festival. If anyone would like to contribute anything knitted or crocheted for this yarnbombing display, please get in touch and I can let you know where to send them. I have my own little bit of yarnbombing on the tree outside my house at the moment!

I hope you are all well and I send you my warmest wishes to stay safe and take care!

I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Have you, like me, been busy making lots of festive makes and Christmas gifts and now are looking forward to making something for yourself? I have been busy making gnomes, robins and snowflakes and am now thinking of casting on a Tin Can Knits Antler cardigan in my Woolly Chic Pembrokeshire DK wool!

Projects hot off my hook this month – Christmas Gnomes and a new Harmony of Leaves Scarf!

If you fancy making any of these projects over Christmas or need a last minute present for a friend who knits or crochets, there is still time to buy a Woolly Chic crochet or knitting kit. The last posting date is this Friday (20th December) for post to UK addresses.

2019 has been filled with lots of lovely memories and the highlights definitely include Wonderwool Wales, Yarndale and the Made In Hitchin creative retreat. I have enjoyed meeting and teaching so many fantastic people and am excited that there will be lots more workshops, craft nights and crochet groups planned next year. See dates below:
